The artist whose work I have chosen to display is Yinka Shonibare. What interests me the most about this artist is his ability to incorporate the diversity of his heritage into his work. This makes for very colorful and intriguing illustrations juxtaposed within one image. Shonibare was born in London, England and grew up on Lagos, Nigeria. Although both of his parents are Nigerian, Shonibare combines the ideas of race, class, and gender from both his English and African background. I admire Shonibare for his ability to create beautiful artwork despite his physical disability. Being paralyzed on one side of his body does not prevent him from pioneering the merge of traditional African and English components within his artwork.
